On September 15th, a lecture of Studium Generale was organised as a bonding activity for participants of the Study Tour 2021. This lecture served as a good preparation for the educational aspects of the Study Tour and was a great way to get to know fellow participants.

The lecture focussed on how large parts of the world experienced severe droughts in the past two years. In Australia, this has led to devastating bushfires. Recent research has shown that there is an 30% increase in weather conditions that can lead to bushfires. Is there a causality between climate change, droughts and bushfires? Dr. Geert Jan van Oldenborgh, researcher at the Royal Dutch Measurement Insitute, is specialized in the relation between extreme weather events and climate. We would like to thank Studium Generale and Dr. Geert Jan van Oldenborgh in particular for making this interesting experience possible.

This lecture is in cooperation with study association ConcepT of Civil Engineering.
