The United Arab Emirates is located in the Middle East and consists of seven emirates, of which Abu Dhabi and Dubai are the most well-known. In these two emirates, almost two-third of the total population of the UAE is living. As the country has gained its welfare by producing oil, the economy of the UAE is highly industrialized. Since the 90s, the UAE started modernizing at a rapid pace and attracted a lot of immigrants. As a result, 88.5% of the population is an immigrant. This rapid modernization also led to extraordinary building projects and new civil engineering challenges.
